19th World Congress of AIMS

The 19th World Congress of AIMS will take place on 10-12 May 2012 in Prague (CZE). Registration is available at: www.aimscongress2012.cz along with a provisional programme.

20th World Congress of AIMS

One of the questions to be determined at the 19th Congress will be the venue for the 20th Congress, which should take place between November 2013 and October 2014. Any member interested in hosting the Congress should contact the AIMS Secretary aimssec@aol.com.

The Marathon Route in 656 Pages

The Athens Classic Marathon has always been a very special race. The 28th edition in 2010 was uniquely significant as it coincided with the 2500th anniversary of the Battle of Marathon and the birth of the Marathon legend. AIMS Marathon Museum of Running

The editorial and advertising deadline for edition 2 of 2012 is on 9 March, and the magazine will be distributed in April 2012.

Publicity for your race

Edition 1 of Distance Running Edition for 2012 carries the fourth article in the regular series called “"Running into history”". The purpose of the series is to look at how particular races have developed over the years since they were founded, on the occasion of one of their significant anniversaries. Any member race approaching such a significant anniversary (10, 20, 25, 30, 40 years etc) — either during or soon after the period of publication — can apply to the editor to fill this spot as the featured race. The articles are generally two pages (1000-1200 words).

The first event to be featured was the Vancouver International Marathon, which celebrated its 40th anniversary on 1 May. Vancouver Marathon Chairman Frank Stebner wrote:
“It is a great honour to have the Vancouver Marathon recognized in the history series. As time goes by you realize how important the history is to an event. We look forward to reading about the histories of other AIMS marathon events.”
