THY ISTANBUL has signed a one-year contract with legendary Brazilian Jose Roberto Guimaraes, aka Zé Roberto, one of the most successful coaches in volleyball history, especially when it comes to the women’s game.
THY ISTANBUL is set to compete both nationally and internationally in the 2023/2024 season. The team’s new head coach Jose Roberto Guimaraes has previously achieved much success with the national team of Brazil – winning Olympic gold in 2008 and 2012 – and many clubs, making him a prominent figure in the sport. He helped Fenerbahce ISTANBUL secure their only triumph in the CEV Champions League back in 2012. He coached the men’s national team of Brazil to a historic gold medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
In a statement, THY Sports Club President Ahmet Bolat expressed his delight at bringing a coach of this calibre to their team. “We are thrilled to have someone like Jose Roberto Guimaraes, one of the most successful coaches in world volleyball, to join our team. We expect our team to become stronger and achieve successful results in the upcoming season.”
“It is a great honour for me to take charge of THY ISTANBUL. The volleyball atmosphere in Türkiye has always impressed me. We will do our best to march towards our goals together with our team.”
