New York ve Berlin organizasyon komitelerinden bugün yapılan duyurularla maratonların iptal edildiği bildirildi.

New York Maratonu‘nun organizatörü New York Road Runners Club tarafından yapılan açıklamada, 1 Kasım’da düzenlenmesi planlanan maratonun Korona virüsü (Kovid-19) salgını riski nedeniyle 7 Kasım 2021’e ertelendiği duyuruldu.
New York Road Runners Club Başkanı Michael Capiraso, koşuyu son ana kadar yapmayı umduklarını belirterek, “Ancak ümidimiz belirsizliğe dönüştü ve geçtiğimiz aylarda yaşadıklarımız göz önüne alındığında bu karar gerçekten tek seçenek oldu.” ifadelerini paylaştı.
New York Belediye Başkanı Bill de Blasio da kararın yerinde olduğunu ifade ederek, “New York Road Runners Club’ı koşucuların ve izleyicilerin sağlığını ve güvenliğini düşündüğü için alkışlıyorum.” değerlendirmesinde bulundu.
Bu yıl yarışmaya katılmak için başvuru yapanların isterlerse geri ödeme alabilecekleri veya gelecek 3 yıl içindeki maratonlardan birine katılabilecekleri kaydedildi.
New York’un en prestijli etkinliklerinden olan dünyaca ünlü maraton, 2012’de Sandy kasırgası nedeniyle iptal edilmişti.
Geçen sene 49’uncusu düzenlenen New York Maratonu’na, Amerika’nın 50 eyaletinden gelen koşucular da dahil 125 ülkeden 50 binden fazla yarışmacı katılıyor.
Staten Island’da Verrazzano Köprüsü’nden başlayan toplam 42 km 195 m uzunluğundaki maratonda koşucular, New York’un 5 bölgesinde de koşarak Manhattan bölgesinde bulunan Central Park’ta bitiş çizgisine ulaşıyor.
Yarışmada birinci gelen kadın ve erkeğe 100 bin dolar, ikinci gelenlere 60 bin dolar, üçüncü gelenlere de 40 bin dolar para ödülü veriliyor.
10 binden fazla gönüllünün yer aldığı ve 1 milyondan fazla kişinin izlediği maratonda, yarışı tamamlayan her koşucuya günün anısına madalya takdim ediliyor.

New York Marathon
The 2020 #TCSNYCMarathon, set to take place on November 1, has been canceled. Due to coronavirus-related health and safety concerns for runners, spectators, volunteers, staff, and the many partners and communities that support the event, and in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of the City of New York, we made the difficult decision to cancel the world’s largest marathon.
All participants who were registered for the 2020 TCS New York City Marathon will be contacted directly by July 15 regarding their cancellation resolution options. You will have the choice of one of the following five resolution options:
– A full refund of your entry fee
– Guaranteed complimentary entry for the 2021 Marathon
– Guaranteed complimentary entry for the 2022 Marathon
– Guaranteed complimentary entry for the 2023 Marathon
– Donate the value of your entry fee to support NYRR’s free youth and community programs
Runners who gained entry through a charity, partner, or international tour operator should reach out to that organization beginning July 1 for the resolution options available to them.
Registered runners and others from around the world are invited to participate in the third annual TCS New York City Marathon – Virtual 26.2M taking place from October 17 through November 1. Further details on the virtual marathon will be shared in July.
In addition, the 2020 #AbbottDash5K on October 31 has also been canceled. In the days and weeks ahead, NYRR will continue to work closely with government officials regarding the status of other in-person events and programs in 2020, with the likelihood of additional cancellations to be announced this summer.

BMW BERLIN-MARATONU
Almanya’nın başkenti Berlin’de 1974 yılından beri düzenlenen Berlin Maratonu, Korona virüsü (Kovid-19) salgını sebebiyle iptal edildi.
Organizasyon komitesi tarafından yapılan açıklamada, 26-27 Eylül 2020 tarihlerinde yapılması planlanan maratonun salgın nedeniyle daha önce ertelendiği hatırlatıldı.
Büyük çaplı etkinliklerin Ekim sonuna kadar yasak olduğu Almanya’da, maratonu daha sonra düzenlemenin mümkün olmadığı gerekçesiyle organizasyonun bu yıl yapılmayacağı belirtildi.

Cancellation of the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON 2020
Patience is a much sought-after skill these days. Every day we have to come to terms with new situations, demands and decisions. In the end, all this happens for the benefit of our health. Our team has also had to practice patience and constantly checked new possibilities for the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON under the given conditions. In addition, there were countless discussions about a self-developed sophisticated hygiene concept. These processes have required a lot of time as well as your patience. Thank you for your understanding, no matter if you are a runner, skater, wheelchair or handbike athlete.
As hard as we have tried, it is currently not possible to organize the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON with its usual Berlin charm. Fun, joy, health and success are attributes that characterize the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON, but we are not able to guarantee all of this at the moment. Your health, as well as all of our health, is our first priority. Therefore, taking into account the Containment Measures Ordinance due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its latest update on June 17, 2020, the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON 2020 will not be able to take place on September 26-27, 2020. Furthermore, it will also not be possible – after extensive examination and various discussions, also with the authorities – to hold the event at a later date this year.
