Letesenbet Gidey, Half Marathon World Record

Letesenbet Gidey SMASHES Half Marathon World Record 1.02.52 || Valencia Half Marathon

Ethiopian athlete Letesenbet Gidey broke the half marathon world record today at the 30th Trinidad Alfonso EDP Valencia Half Marathon with a stratospheric time of 1:02:52. This is 70 seconds off the previous record for the distance (1:04:02 by Ruth Chepngetich). Gidey ran a perfect race, leading at all times and delivering a performance to be remembered.

After breaking the 5,000m world record in 2020 and the 10,000m world record in June of 2021, Letesenbet Gidey is back for yet another historic record-breaking performance.

Letesenbet Gidey, says;

“I want to thank everyone who helped me to achieve this. I love Valencia, it is a wonderful city and it’s almost a second home for me. I ran very fast in the first part of the race, but I had to train hard for it, even up to 30 kilometres. And here is the result.

Previous record was set in Istanbul Half Marathon by Ruth Chepngetich (KEN) with 1.04.02
